Defense of Beliefs Grounds for Forcing Children into Public Schools?
This story is more than a month old, but I was just introduced to it today. A 10-year old girl in New Hampshire has been home-schooled by her mother for all her life. Sadly her parents divorced around the time of her birth. Apparently her mother has been caring for her since then. Her mother, a Christian wishes to continue home-schooling. Her father thinks that Amanda should go to public school. This part of the story does not bug me.
This part of the story does bug me…
Marital Master Michael Garner reasoned that the girl’s “vigorous defense of her religious beliefs to [her] counselor suggests strongly that she has not had the opportunity to seriously consider any other point of view” and then recommended that the girl be ordered to enroll in a government school instead of being home-schooled. Judge Lucinda V. Sadler approved the recommendation and issued the order on July 14.
Have I mentioned how I feel about judges like this?

I agree. It looks like this judge has overstepped his authority by a great deal. I would imagine the appeal will be successful.
