Life of an Investor: About Matthew

Matthew Aaron SumpterSo, who is Matthew Aaron Sumpter and why did he make this site? Well, some of the reasons that I made this site are listed on the About this site page. I’d like to explain here a little more about my past life and how I came to the conclusion to create this site.

Let’s start with high school. Don’t worry, I’ll make the story as short as possible. In high school I started to get interested in computers and programming and web development. I created a few sites for friends that were in bands and just played around with it. I had all the normal jobs. I worked at restaurants and eventually at UPS. I was blessed with the opportunity to start working in a corporate environment at a young age. I made a lot of money (which I promptly spent) and advanced fairly quickly. I did finish my college education and continued to work as a programmer for several companies, often for not more than a year at a time. I easily got bored and moved on to the next place that would pay me a few thousand more per year. Currently, you can find me sitting in an office at a small insurance company inside my cubicle in the corner all day. Needless to say, this is not my dream job. And if I was perfectly honest, I’d probably have to say that I don’t believe that there is such a thing. But, I have come to a point in my life (married, children, house, cars… responsibilities), that I realize the importance of an income. Even more important, a stable income from a job that’s close to home, with great benefits! That is what has kept me at my current job for almost two years and what will keep me here for the foreseable future, even though it won’t ever make me “rich”.

As a sidenote to my story above, I have always considered my self an entrepeneur. I hate to admit that I have many times jumped on get-rich-quick schemes and then quickly lost interest. I have made several websites over the years for churches, bands, small businesses, family, etc. I have made many of my own sites that I hoped would make me wealthy. Alas, I’m still not as wealthy as I had hoped. Sometimes I wonder if I had put this much effort into my career, where would I be. But I know that I could never do that. My heart is just not in it. I don’t have the passion.

So anyway, that’s me in a nutshell. Obviously there is a lot more to the story, but I’ll let that come out slowly in my posts. I invite you to read my stories, laugh at me, comment and share with others.
